Computing

The use of information and communication technology is an essential part of the National Curriculum and is a key skill for everyday life. Computers, tablets, programmable toys, digital cameras and recorders and visualisers are a few of the tools that can be used to acquire, organise, store, manipulate, interpret, communicate, and present information.

The National Curriculum states that;

  • A high-quality computing education equips pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world.
  • Computing has deep links with mathematics, science, and design and technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems.
  • The core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, pupils are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content.
  • Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world.

At Studfall, we ensure children are provided with quality hardware, software and a structured and progressive skills-based curriculum to ensure they are confident in using this equipment in the wider world.

It is also essential that we teach the safe use and practices that need to be understood regarding the use of equipment and the dangers in the online world. Please see our e-safety page for more information regarding this. https://www.studfallinfantacademy.org/page/?title=E%2DSafety&pid=60

Computing Curriculum Intent

At Studfall Infant Academy, we aim to provide a high-quality computing education, which will prepare our children for their future by giving them the opportunities to gain knowledge and develop skills that will equip them for an ever-changing digital world.

We nurture our children by aiming to make their Computing learning experiences exciting, engaging stimulating and interactive.

We believe in equipping our children with the knowledge and understanding of ICT and its increasing importance for their future at school, home and in employment.

Using a range of quality devices, children explore, observe, engage, solve problems and make exciting discoveries for themselves and in collaboration with others.

In line with the 2014 National Curriculum for Computing, our Computing Curriculum focuses on a progression of skills in Computer Science, Digital Literacy/E Safety and Information Technology to ensure that children become competent in safely using, as well as understanding technology.
