Supporting Behaviour

In our school we follow the golden rules – which is something that we discuss with the children when joining us and recap on a regular basis. This is based on a behaviour programme devised by Jenny Mosley.

Golden Rules Classroom Poster

All classes display this poster.  It is a positive view of what we expect from our children in terms of behaviour.  We also model this behaviour to children as adults and we reinforce good manners – saying please and thank you is so important to us.

We also reinforce the positive expectations with the use of our dojo system – where specific behaviours are allocated  to receive dojos. This is an example – parents receive direct notification of dojos which enables you to celebrate the golden rules and great behaviour with your children too.

In our school curriculum, we address learning to manage feelings and emotions and behaviour . This is an integral part of our PSHE and C curriculum across our school in EYFS and Key Stage 1.

We have an amazing Learning Mentor, Joy McKenzie, who is also able to support children on a 1-to-1 or small group basis.

Zones of Regulation

As a result of some staff training by our educational psychology service and Maplefields outreach, we also use the zones of regulation across our school. This is a visual system to help children to recognise and try to  change how they are feeling .  This system is also used by our learning mentor and SENDCO.

We share this information with children  in class and teach them how to use the language associated with this. We also use snippets from the film Inside Out to help to reinforce  how the  different zones might make them feel – but  also that we can change how we are feeling .
