Our Phonics scheme is fast-paced and engaging for the children, and encourages the use of 'robot arms' to help children to segment words into their single sounds. We stretch words, then use our blending hands to bring the sounds together to read the whole word.

We use Class Dojo throughout the school as a method of sharing the rewards the children are earning with parents, as well as another means of communication between home and school. As always, if you have any queries or concerns, feel free to contact your child's teacher and they will get back to you as soon as they are able to (please observe quiet hours and take into account working days for children with 2 teachers).

We send out new reading books every Friday and read with your child as regularly as we can, so please ensure your child has their book bag in school every day.

It is especially important that your child returns their book on a Thursday, ready for reallocation on Friday.

In Year 1, we ask that children read regularly (at least 3 times per week) at home. Phonics work is also shared weekly via Class Dojo, along with examples of our maths learning.
